![]() ![]() Indeed many people argued early on it defeated the purpose of the game to be very uncivilized and simply kill everyone else off. As the name implies it's about building a civilization, and competing with others, and the flow of the game is supposed to get to the point where while things start out very violent, eventually things pacify, much like the real world, and you have to focus increasingly on things like economy and infra structure as well as the global balance of power to come out ahead. One thing to understand about Civilization is that it's never been intended as a war game, although the first couple of titles made winning through conquest or genocide relatively easy. ![]() I played the first AOW (but not the later ones) and most of the games that inspired it (Master Of Magic, Heroes Of Might And Magic) and this game should be a lot more combat focuses than Civilization, especially the latter games. I don't want to play a farming/economy simulator ![]() It was tedious and bothered me how much emphasis was on that. Originally posted by sonny:My big problem with Civ was how combat was like, not even a minigame, but just a simulated spreadsheet, with little thought, and how the game was just playing a single player religion/economy simulator. ![]() If that sounds overwhelming to manually fight out, don't worry, there is a button that allows the AI to take over for you, and you can either leave it to do its thing for the entire match, or you can jump back in and resume control at any time.ĪoW also has civilizations and "classes" (secret technologies) that are actually different form each other and can combine in unique ways, as opposed to civ's version of a "different faction" being a reskin of the previous with a slightly different minor trait, and one different unit in a specific age of the game. Battles transition to a separate screen where any two groups facing each other can each have 6 units per stack attack, and up to 7 stacks total in the fight (42 units), and this also makes it more complex and more fun to actually do. In AoW you have much greater troop customization, and they have abilities that you can use. You perform a quick animation on the world map between two units and that is it. In Civ games combat feels as if it was an afterthought for the developers. ![]()
